Biography

  1. Tentatively identified as Joseph Longmore, son of John Longmore senior and his wife Elizabeth nee Watts. Baptised 17/04/1781 in Hopton, Shropshire. Married Harriet Smith in Sidbury, Shropshire, in 1814. Six children baptised in Tewkesbury 1815-1830. Of Mythe Villa, Tewkesbury when his brother John Longmore (q.v.) wrote his will in 1835. Of Mythe House in the censuses of 1841 and 1851 and at the time he wrote his will in April 1851 (proved 04/07/1854). Described as of independent means and a gentleman in the censuses.

  2. Described as an absentee in the slave register of 1817 when he owned 1 enslaved person in Kingston. Not in Jamaica in 1829 when his attorney registered enslaved people in Kingston for Longmore as executor of Peter Leferer.
