Awarded part of the compensation for the Upton estate in St Mary Jamaica as the 'reputed son' and annuitant of Joseph Charles, who died in 1799.
T71/856 St Mary no. 103. Edward S Charles counteclaimed as 'Annuitant under the will of Joseph Charles for arrears of £88 0s 6d Annuity pr ann. £42 17s 4d sterling'. Affidavit of service of notice on Claimants for an award for amount of arrears of annuity and for investment of the residue of the Compensation to meet the growing (?)annuity'. T71/1378 identifies Edward Charles as the reputed son of Joseph Charles of Island of Jamaica, who left him an annuity in his will of 1799.
