Biography

Co-owner with her late husband's half-brother Henry Lord Garrigues of Pleasant Farm and Yarmouth estates in Jamaica, and 1400 acres in St Mary's. Daughter of J.H. Guy, sister of Millicent Lane (q.v.) and widow of George Barriffe (whom she had married 21/12/1811 at Hayfield).

  1. Sarah Guy was the daughter of John Hudson Guy (1754-1816) and his wife Millicent nee Fletcher (1761-1843) and from a long-established Jamaican family. Born 19/02/1791, baptised 31/05/1795, married George Barriffe 21/12/1811 at Hayfield, Jamaica, died 02/01/1867.

  2. In 1851 Sarah Barriffe aged 60 born Jamaica was a visitor with William Gouldsborough and his wife at Dorset Place Marylebone. Sarah Barriffe aged 'about 72' of 17 Westbourne Park Crescent was buried at All Souls Kensal Green 08/01/1867. The will of Sarah Barriffe who died 02/01/1867 of 17 Westbourne Park Crescent was proved 28/01/1867, effects under £3000.

  3. Will of George Barriffe of Southampton Row proved 02/08/1830. Probate with copy of the will of George Barriffe, f. of St Thomas-in-the-East, Jamaica, dated 1831.
