Resident slave-owner in Jamaica, brother of Allen Hillton (q.v.), dying in 1838. The John Preston Hilton shown by Diana Paton as the father of James Lawrence Hilton (q.v.) was of an earlier generation, dying c. 1805.
John Proctor (born 10/08/1805) and Allen (born 16/12/1806), sons of Allen and Sarah Hilton, baptised in St Ann, 28/10/1808.
John Preston Hilton of St Giles Cripplegate, Esquire, bachelor, married Elizabeth Fayle of St Pancras by licence 06/10/1829.
Will of John Preston Hilton gentleman of St Ann Jamaica [made in 1838] proved 11/01/1839. He left his Enfield estate to his wife Elizabeth for life.
The John P. Hilton, age 29, West India Planter, born Jamaica, a boarder in the household of Mary A. Cooper in Preston, Dorset in 1861 is presumably his eldest son.

In case of her second marriage, it is my desire that my executors will not admit of any interference in any way whatsoever on the part of her husband in the management or control of her property and at her demise all my property to my lawful children share and share alike. Executors to be Utten Thomas Todd and John Clarke of St Ann, Esquires. Also my wife Elizabeth Hilton to be executrix. Signed 30/03/1838. Proved in Jamaica 17/04/1838. Proved in London 15/01/1839. |
