Biography

Catherine Farquharson was born 06/11/1780; baptised 17/01/1782 at St Elizabeth, Jamaica. Her parents were Charles Farquharson MD and Frances Tatham Smith. She married John Maybelle Cooper in the 1790s; they had probably five children: Frances Charlotte, Margaret, John Maybelle, William Salmon, and Charles Farquharson. Their eldest daughter, Frances Charlotte, married John Salmon Jr (q.v.) in 1820.

Catherine Cooper was a slave-owner: St Elizabeth (1817-1823) and Westmoreland (1826). Some enslaved were registered by (Hon.) John Salmon as her attorney in St Elizabeth in 1817, and Catherine Cooper herself registered 10 and 7 enslaved people (St Elizabeth, 1820 and 1823); then 3 in Westmoreland in 1826.

She died in 1858.
