Australian physician, son of John Gay Alleyne, a planter, and his wife Joanna née Bishop (q.v.) and step-grandson of Sir Fitzroy Maclean (q.v.).
Attended Edinburgh University. Health Officer in Port Jackson, New South Wales from 1852. Held a number of other positions eg Honorary Physician to the Sydney Infirmary 1855-1873 and trustee of the Australian Museum 1880-1882.
