Biography

Deceased part owner of Friendship estate in St Thomas-in-the-East, part of the compensation for which was paid to trustees and executors under Lambie's will, under which he had left an annuity of £400 p.a. secured on Friendship to his second wife, Elizabeth Ann Lambie (q.v.). Father of Elizabeth Jane Lambie (q.v.) with his first wife Elizabeth Dundas Crichton; survived by his second wife Elizabeth Ann Lambie.

  1. Lately at Edinburgh, William Lambie Esq. of the Island of Jamaica [married] to Elizabeth Dundas Crichton, daughter of Mr Chrichton [sic] Gayfield Square. This Elizabeth Lambie died 20/12/1821 in Kingston aged 23. The claim is tied to William Lambie her husband by the presence of Patrick Charles Crichton as counterclaimant as guardian of Elizabeth Jane Lambie (q.v.), the daughter of William Lambie and Elizabeth Crichton.

  2. There was also a counterclaim from E.A. Lambie of the parish of St Ann, widow, for £400 annuity under will of William Lambie, made in 1826. This was Elizabeth Ann Lambie (q.v.), William Lambie's second wife. William Lambie of St Mary Middlesex Jamaica died 29/08/1832.

  3. W. Lambie was a large-scale attorney 'by 1832' and owned 19 slaves on Friendship and with Charles Scott was 'joint owner and agent for the heirs of Dr Irving, who held 158 slaves on Friendship.'

  4. Administration of the will of William Lambie of St Mary, Middlesex [Jamaica] was granted 14/02/1849 to Elizabeth Ann Lambie, his widow. The will (made 21/02/1826) sets out the provision of the annuity of £400 p.a. to Elizabeth Ann his wife secured on the Friendship estate and made his daughter by his first wife Elizabeth Jane Lambie his residuary legatee. The grant of Administration noted that William and Elizabeth Ann had no children from his second marriage.
