1813 - 19th Apr 1874
"James Mad Lucas" or "The Hermit of Hertfordshire", son of Philip Monoux Lucas and his wife Sarah nee Beesly (both q.v.) and one of the "heirs of Philip Monoux Lucas" named as a beneficiary of his late father's estates. His entry in the ODNB erroneously gives his father's name as James Lucas but correctly identifies him as a partner in the West India merchant firm Chauncy Lang and Lucas (q.v.). James Lucas was a famous eccentric who became known as "Mad Lucas" or "The Hermit of Hertfordshire" and left £120,000 on his death in 1874.
