Biography

London merchant, counterclaiming unsuccessfully as judgement creditor for one award in Barbados and acting as London attorney or agent at the National Debt Office for two others.

  1. In 1841 Benjamin Elkin aged 59 merchant was living at 20 Upper Bedford Place with Eliza aged 20, Isaac aged 19, Jacob aged 17, Juliana aged 13 and Catherine aged 10, the last born in parish. His death date is shown as 05/01/1848 aged 63 in a genealogical site.

  2. Will of Benjamin Elkin merchant of Upper Bedford Place Russell Sqaure proved 07/07/1848. In the will he says he was carrying on business as merchant in separate partnerships for the Island of Trinidad and the Island of Barbadoes.

  3. His daughter Juliana (to whom he left £2000) married Jacob Mocatta colonial broker who died in 1877 leaving £250,000.
