???? - 1811
Charles and James Hoppe of 156 Minories, London, were the executors of John Hoppe and wrote to the compensation commissioners asking for details of the award made for Bransby's estate in Montserrat, "for which they hold a bond". What appears an anomalous involvement by John Hoppe in the slave-economy is probably explicable in light of the marriage of Robert Dobridge to Martha Hoppe (probably his sister) in London at St Gregory by St Paul 03/02/1795, when the witness included John Hoppe the elder and the younger, as well as John Dobridge.
Will of John Hoppe merchant of Minories City of London proved 22/04/1811. He left an annuity of £250 p.a. to his wife Mary, and the remainder of his property to his seven children. He identified his partner as 'Mr -----Tanner.' The will makes no reference to the bond on Bransby.
John Hoppe of the Minories was a boot and shoe manufacturer in partnership with William Heath until the end of 1807.

Hoppe, executors, 156 Minories, stating that they are executors under will of Mr John Hoppe and have a considerable claim on the Bransbys estate, for which they hold a Bond. They go on to enquire how much will be awarded to Robert Dobridge, how it is to be paid, and to whom given that the Daniels' hold a mortgage. Also, how are they to proceed to protect the interests of the late Mr John Hoppe's widow and family? The value of the claim is given as upwards of £20,000. T71/1593 p. 132: letter, dated 05/03/1836, from the Court of Chancery to C. & J. Hoppe, 156 Minories, stating that T. Daniel has withdrawn the counterclaim, and that the award was made to Robert Dobridge; Ancestry.com, London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1932 for Robert Dobridge City of London St Gregory by St Paul 1781-1800 [database online].
