Inherited Amity Hall and Bogue estates in Vere, Jamaica, in 1765 after the death of his father Edward Goulburn and uncle Henry Goulburn. Attended Eton and Trinity College, Oxford. Married 1782 to Susannah, daughter of William Chetwynd, 4th Viscount Chetwynd, and his wife Susannah Cope. Three sons, Henry (1784), Edward (1787) and Frederick (1788 - possibly died young). "Lived a profligate life..." with a country seat at Prinknash Park, Gloucestershire, and a townhouse at Great Cumberland Place, London. Listed for tax purposes in Portland Place in 1782. Died suddenly and intestate in 1793 with considerable debts; his estate was inherited by his widow and was placed in Chancery.
