Biography

Son of William Reece, of St Thomas, Barbados (?-?1806) and Sarah (? Skinner). The eldest of 8 children. No record of his birth but appears to have been born around 1778.

Owned Pilgrim Place and Gibbons plantations in Christ Church, Barbados and gave the land on which Providence Chapel stands. Went to England in 1835, remaining there until November. Left Liverpool 11 November 1835 but died on the voyage.

By his will of 27 April 1835, his widow Elizabeth (1779-1853) inherited half the profits of Pilgrim Place during her life. (She died there in 1853.) He also left part of his estate to the Wesleyan Society which 'benefitted considerably'. The rest of his property went to his brother Robert (q.v.) and his sisters, Mary and Judith. 'All his slaves on his two plantations were to have half-an-acre of land during their lifetime.'
