Sir William Miles

Biography

  1. Sir William Miles (1797-1878), 1st bart., of Leigh Court, Abbots Leigh, Somerset, the eldest son from the first marriage of the Bristol banker and West India merchant Philip John Miles (q.v.). Sir William Miles was MP for Chippenham 1818-20, New Romney 1830-32, and East Somerset 1834-65. Sir William's son, Sir Philip John William Miles 2nd bart. (1825-1888), was Conservative MP for East Somerset 1878-1885.

  2. There is a large wall monument memorial to William Miles and other family members at Holy Trinity Churchyard, Abbots Leigh, North Somerset.
