Ambrose Carter's first wife was Susanna Julia Raffles (1746-1784). The will of Thomas Raffles of St Ann, Blackfriars, London, written 01/11/1782, mentions his daughter Susanna Carter, wife of Ambrose Carter of Jamaica, and a second codicil to the will, dated 21/07/1784 mentions that his daughter Susanna has died. Susanna had been baptised 06/04/1746 at St Ann, Blackfriars, daughter of Thomas and Susanna Raffles. Thomas Raffles d. 1784 was the grandfather of Thomas Stamford Raffles, the colonialist who founded Singapore.
Susanna Carter nee Raffles died in childbirth and was buried at Rocky Point, St Thomas-in-the-East, 19/08/1784. Ambrose and Susanna's final child Benjamin was born 12/08/1784 and baptised at Barking Lodge 09/04/1785.
Ambrose Carter remarried, to Leonora Sophia Stamford, a widow, at Newmarket estate in St Thomas-in-the-East, Jamaica, 01/06/1786. They had a son, Charles, baptised 05/02/1788 aged 6 months. Ambrose Carter was buried 28/11/1793 at Barking Lodge.
