Early slave-owner in Demerara, owner of the Garden of Eden and Ketty or Kitty estates (which he at least contemplated offering for sale in 1799 for £41,750 and £70,000 respectively) and operating transatlantically between c. 1798 and his death at Elgin in 1813. He owned Innes House, Elgin and the estate of Leuchars in the period around 1798-1801.
