Biography

  1. Born in Nurney, Kildare, Ireland, John Bagot married Catherine Cuming the daughter of wealthy Demarara planter Thomas Cuming in May 1797.

  2. Plantation Thomas, the estate he is listed as owning in 1826 is bordered by a number of plantations owned by his father-in-law, suggesting that the estate was acquired from Thomas Cuming at some point prior to Cuming's return to Scotland in 1810 or after his death in 1813.

  3. At John Bagot's death in November 1835 he was residing in the city of Bath although he continued to own property in Kildare which he passed to his brother Edward Bagot.
