William Nembhard

22nd Dec 1796 - 9th Oct 1833

Biography

  1. Owner of Hounslow and Kensington estates in St Elizabeth, Jamaica. William Nembhard died on 09/10/1833 in London, leaving Hounslow estate to his under-age son [William, 1827-1905], under the guidance of his uncle Edward; and 'To my dau. Eva the half of Kensington plantation, her brother sharing with her at her mother's death and paying her £3000'. Henry and Edward Nembhard were Wm. Nembhard's brothers. Henry Nembhard was an absentee; Edward Nembhard was resident. The will made it impossible to sell the estates (or at least Kensington estate) until Eva came of age in 1852. A William Nembhard was living at 11 Upper Berkeley Street, London in 1825. William Nembhard of Great Marylebone Street was buried in Marylebone 12/10/1833 age 37.

  2. William Nembhard inherited a 1/3 share in Hounslow from his father Ballard Beckford Nembhard who died in 1821. He inherited a further share on the death of his elder brother in 1822 and possibly bought the remaining 1/3 from his second brother Henry as he presented himself in possession of the whole estate on his death in 1833. However, his brother Rev. Henry Nembhard was awarded part of the compensation for the enslaved people on the estate.

  3. William Nembhard of St.Elizabeth parish esq and Elizabeth Frances Brooks, spinster, of Manchester parish were married at Manchester by licence 01/02/1827. Elizabeth Frances was the eldest daughter of George Brooks of Blenheim estate.
