Biography

Slave-owner in Jamaica, dead by 1790. Online genealogical sources suggest ties to Clifton and to Somerset in the 1750s, with the birth or baptism of several children there, but these have not been confirmed.

Henry Lord was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 100 acres of land in St Catherine and 2757 acres of land in St Thomas-in-the-Vale, total 2857 acres. Thomas Sutton, a minor, and Henry Lord were listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 150 acres of land in Portland.

Henry Lord contributed £50 to the University of Pennsylvania following Dr John Morgan's fundraising tour of the West Indies in 1772-1773.

In his will made in 1775 and proved in 1776, Samuel Smith said he had purchased half of the Union sugar works from Henry Lord Esq. It is not clear that Henry Lord Esq. was the same man as the Henry Lord shown as previous owner of three estates in Clarendon and St Thomas-in-the-Vale in the late 1790s.
