John Jackson

???? - 1787

Husband of Elizabeth Eleanor Witter (q.v.), through whom he came to co-own Mt Pleasant in Hanover. The heirs of John Jackson were listed as owners of Mt Pleasant in Hanover, Jamaica, in 1799. Not to be confused with the John Jackson [of Fulham] who was listed as owner of Sod Hall in 1799 in the same source.

  1. Thomas Witter Jackson (senior) was born in London, 26/10/1776; baptised 18/11/1776 in St Andrew, Holborn, son of John Jackson and his wife Elizabeth Eleanor (nee Witter), abode New Ormond Street.

  2. Will of John Jackson barrister-at-law of St Catherine [made in 1785] proved 17/10/1788. In the will he left his property in trust until his eldest son Thomas Witter Jackson was 21, to secure an annuity of £500 p.a. to his wife [given as Elizabeth Ellen] and to support his three children, and then to pay £3000 each to the two youngest (John Mountague Jackson and Mary Ann Jackson) at 21 and 18. He asked that James and John Wedderburn be retained as attorneys to his estates. Edward Gale Boldero was one of his trustees, along with his brother Henry Jackson and his father, also John Jackson. He died on the voyage to England from Jamaica in 1787, and the codicil he added to his will on board required verification.

1., London, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 [database online].

  2. PROB 11/1170/244.
