Biography

Slave-owner in Jamaica, owner of Alexandria and Alva in St Ann in the almanacs from 1809 onwards, and who died c. 1822, apparently resident. The enslaved people on Alexandria passed to the mortgagees, Higgin, Whiteley of London. A John Alexander, possibly the same man, had owned 12 enslaved people and 8 stock in St Ann, Jamaica, in 1792.

  1. Alexandria had been jointly owned by John Alexander and Donald Mcintosh under the firm of Alexander and Mcintosh until the death of Donald Mcintosh c.1802, when the 83 named enslaved people were valued at £11,515.
