Biography

  1. Grant Ellcock, buried at St James, Barbados, 21/07/1821, age 78 years.

  2. This is the Dr Grant Ellcock, son of Grant Ellcock of St John and his wife Anne nee Sieuzac, who married Elizabeth Reynoldia Alleyne in Barbados 23/02/1775 (she was the daughter of Reynold and Lucy Alleyne, and was born 05/11/1758). Father of Lucy Reynold Ellcock who married [1] Dr George Wilson and [2] Rev. Mark Nicholson.

  3. An unsourced website gives his birth in Barbados, 24/09/1744.

  4. Grant Elcock of Barbados was a student in the College of Chemistry, Scotland, in 1762. Grant Elwck [sic], age 20, graduated MD at the University of Leyden 08/07/1768, thesis 'De metastasi lactea'.

  5. Grant Ellcock and his wife Elizabeth Reynoldia had four children baptised in Barbados, Elizabeth Ward (baptised 1783), Ann (born 1785, baptised 1786), Reynold Alleyne and Christian Gibbes (both baptised 1789).

  6. The will of his sister-in-law Susanna Christian Alleyne (written 1810, proved 1818) stated she was owed £1,100 from Dr Grant Ellcock as her moiety of £2,20 due to her mother against the sugar work called Jacksons. This £1,100 Susanna bequeathed to her niece Christian Gibbes Ellcock (later presumably Christian Gibbes Maynard).
