Biography

  1. Brother and residuary heir of David Finlay (late owner of Ardoch estate in St Ann, Jamaica). Of Newton Hall, Haddington, Scotland and of Pebble Hill Godstone Surrey, in 1834.

  2. Baptised 11/04/1778 in Baldenock, Stirlingshire, Scotland, son of James Finlay and his wife Helen Wedderburn. Younger brother of David (q.v.) and older brother of John (also q.v.). Living at 17 Albany Street in Edinburgh 1809-1811. At the time of his father's death in 1821, Alexander was "of Glencorse" [near Edinburgh] when his father wrote his will in 1825.

  3. There is a portrait of Alexander's wife Justina Camilla Wynne by Henry Raeburn in the Scottish National Gallery.
