Biography

Alexander Bruce of Kennet was named as trustee and executor for James Wedderburn Colvile in 1808 (will first written 1802). He came from a long established noble family which lost its title through attainder following the Jacobite uprising of 1715. Alexander was an East India Merchant trading to China. His son Robert became Lord Kennet in 1808 and subsequently an active member of the House of Lords (see entry for BRUCE, Robert (1795-1864), of Kennet House, nr.
