Biography

Owner of Farm Hill in St David and Gale Mount (the latter not yet traced in the compensation records or the Slave Registers but shown against Henry Stanley's name in the 1811 and 1812 Jamaica Almanacs for St Andrew and possibly combined in the returns for Farm Hill thereafter), dying in London in 1826.

  3. Will of Henry Stanley of Kennington proved 03/03/1826. His executors were Robert Pearce of Kennington, B.J.T. Nightingale of Kings Arms Yard and John Biggar of Kingston Jamaica. Under the will, he left personal effects to his niece Elizabeth Mary Pearce, wife of Robert Pearce, and to his nephew Henry Turpin of Jamaica. He left his estates of Farm Hill and Gales Mount and the enslaved people on them in trust, to secure an annuity of £100 p.a. for his housekeeper Miss Eleanor Penny [?] resident on the estate, of £50 p.a. to Ann Jepson of Camden Street spinster (after their deaths the payments were to be made to his nephew Thomas Turpin) and £65 p.a. to his niece Elizabeth Mary Pearce and her husband Robert: he also made a couple of monetary legacies of £100. Subject to these legacies and annuities, he left his estates to his nephew Henry Turpin and his issue, failing which to Robert Pearce, to whom he also left a £3000 debt due to Stanley from Mr James Walker of London merchant. He left to Elizabeth Mary Pearce and Robert Pearce the interest on his government stock, and then to the Pearces' two children Henrica [sic] Stanley Leger Pearce and Henry Stanley Robert Pearce. His residuary legatees were Henry Turpin and Robert Pearce.
