1762 - 1809
Younger son of John Tharp III of Green Pond and his wife Ann nee Harding. Baptised 13/09/1762 in St James, Jamaica. His father died in 1765 leaving Green Pond equally to William and his elder brother John Tharp V. A minor in England in 1773 and co-owner of Green Pond when his mother was granted an annuity on Green Pond in lieu of dower. Father of John Tharp VII and Benjamin Haughton Tharp (these sons are listed as the nephews of John Tharp V's widow Eliza Mary nee Harding in her will proved in 1832), and also of Thomas Reid Tharp and William Tharp of Heavitree (each of whom q.v.).
Death notice: "At his estate, called Windsor Castle, near Montego-bay, Jamaica, William Tharp, esq. lieutenant-colonel of the St James's Regiment of Militia; who, on his return from reviewing the Regiment, on Monday the 27th of February preceeding, was thrown by a young restive horse, and conveyed speechless to his house, in which state he remained till the instant of his dissolution."
