George Benvenuto Buckley-Mathew

1807 - 1879


Biography

Son of George Mathew (q.v.), and heir of Abednego Mathew (q.v.), his father's cousin, who settled on him the Lyth estate in Shropshire and the Buckley estate on St Kitts. He has an entry in the ODNB as 'politician and diplomatist.' Born George Byam Mathew, he substituted Benvenuto for Byam in 1825 and added Buckley in 1865, in accordance with the will of Abednego Mathew.
