27th May 1767 - 1st Nov 1816
Youngest son of James Irving the elder and his wife Elizabeth nee Motte. Born at Ironshore, Jamaica, in 1767. Sent to England at an early age where he was educated at a school in Kensington and from 1782 at Dr Burney's school in Greenwich. Later at college in Douai, France. Returned to Jamaica in 1787. In South Carolina in 1792, back to Jamaica by 1794 and married Hannah Margaret Corbett in Charleston in 1796.
By 1800 he was back in Jamaica, living at Ironshore. Returned to London in 1803 with his wife and three sons, a "coloured serving man named Peter McGrath, and a young negro girl, Mary Anne Spencer, aged then about thirteen or fourteen years." Lived at 97 Guilford Street, Russell Square. Back to Liverpool from Jamaica in 1810. Died in Liverpool 01/11/1816 at his house in Rodney Street.
Probate proved 1 May 1817, Consistory Court of Chester, personal effects valued under L3000. As the Probate Act Book entry states: "Will with a Codicil of Jacob Amelius Irving late of the Parish of Saint James in the County of Cornwall and Island of Jamaica deceased was Proved and Admon granted unto Hannah Margaret Irving the Extrix Power being reserved to Thomas Corbett the younger, Alexander Mudie, Archibald Stirling, and the Honorable William Murray, and Alexander Erskine the Exors"
