Resident owner of Gray's Hill in Manchester, Jamaica. Deceased at some point between 1826 and 1829.
Probably Ann Elizabeth Burton, "a free person of colour now residing with me" and her two children Sarah Maria Russell and Ann Elizabeth Russell, bequeathed annuities in the will of Joseph Russell (proved 1818).
Sarah Maria Russell, infant daughter of Joseph Russell esq of Russell Place in Clarendon and Ann Elizabeth Burton, a free woman of colour, of Plowden Plantation when the child was born in the parish of Vere, was baptised at Joseph Russell’s house in Clarendon, 22/09/1815. At the same time and in the same house was baptised Eliza, 5-year old daughter of Thomas John Branfoot (q.v.) of Newfield Plantation and Elizabeth Burton, a free woman of colour of Plowden Plantation, both in the parish of Vere. The baptisms are recorded in the Westmoreland register with a note that both children were of free condition. Presumably the mothers are the same person.
See evolutions for Gray's Hill.
