Biography

Deceased by 1815. Owner of Hanbury in Vere, later in Manchester. Given as James B. Vernon. Joseph Russell (q.v.) whose will was made in 1818 and proved in 1820, left £1000 to the daughter Bathshua of his late friend James Baillie Vernon late of of Manchester. Some genealogical sites gives a death-date of 1850 to James Bailie Vernon but this death refers to James Bailey Vernon, a six-year old, possibly a grandson of James Baillie Vernon of this entry.

  1. James Bailie Vernon's son Rev. Bowater James Vernon married Sibella Milner Morison, daughter of Sibella Stephen and niece of the abolitionist James Stephen the elder (1758-1832). Rev. Bowater James Vernon served as chaplain on St Helena at the time of Napoleon's exile there.
