Rev. Benjamin Winston formerly Sandford

Anglican clergyman, changing his surname in order to inherit the property of his grandfather Charles Winston (q.v.). His son also named Charles Winston has an entry in the ODNB as 'barrister and stained glass historian.'

3. In 1841 Revd. Benjamin Winston, age 55, clergyman, born out of county, was living in the Vicarage in Farningham, Kent. Benjamin Winston, widower of Clifton, son of Benjamin Sandford, gentleman, married Ann Knight, spinster of Clifton, daughter of Richard Knight, gentleman, in Clifton, Bristol, 15/12/1846. In 1851 Benjamin Winston, age 64, clergyman not having cure of souls, born Childwall, Lancashire, was living on the High Street in Rhyl in the household of his son Thomas, age 35, "Chief Clerk of the Chester + Holyhead station at Rhyl", with Benjamin's wife Ann, age 39, the family of the railway goods foreman and two house servants. In 1861 Benjamin Winston, married, age 74, clergyman, born Liverpool, was living at Bodannerch in Flintshire with his wife Anne, age 48, born London, son Thomas, age 44, "Gentleman Retired Station Master", born Surrey, a cook and a housemaid. Benjamin Winston of Rhyl, North Wales, was buried in Farningham, Kent, 21/04/1866 aged 81 years.
