1788 - 1827
James Digges La Touche (1788-1827) was the son of William George Digges La Touche (1747-1803), the Dublin banker and diplomat. A brother (not identified in the source but now known by LBS to have been John James Digges La Touche (q.v.)) of William George Digges La Touche had reportedly gone to Jamaica and died there without issue, his property passing to his family in Ireland. On the death of his father William George Digges La Touche in 1803, James, together with Peter Digges La Touche (probably his uncle but possibly his brother), inherited the estate(s) and enslaved people. There is a series of pained references to the inheritance (which James Digges La Touche referred to as 'my transatlantic property') in the memoir of the life of James Digges La Touche published in 1868, in a chapter focused on James Digges La Touche's correspondence with Rev. J. M. Trew.
