Rev. Charles Adye Austin

Anglican clergyman. He died at Cheltenham in Gloucestershire in 1875, but had been in Brazil at the time of the compensation to Surinam slave-owners in 1863. Part of a family grouping of creditors in Surinam in 1863, among individuals known to have been the children of Rev. Richard Austin (q.v.): the will of his brother-in-law Benjamin Fuller Tuckniss confirms him as brother of Mary Jane Austin and hence son of Rev. Richard Austin.

2. In 1863, a claim was made on behalf of William Paul Austin as creditor for the enslaved people on several estates in Surinam. In turn William Paul Austin was shown as having some form of power of attorney dated 1859 from C.A. Austin of Pernambuco and Mary Jane Austin and her [deceased] husband Benjamin Fuller Tuckniss (q.v.) of Blandford Dorset. Charles Adye Austin, M.J. Tuckniss [given as Tuckness] and W.P. Austin also claimed as owners of one-third each of the 106 enslaved people on Plantage Kleinhoop, for which the compensation was paid to creditors.
