Biography

Daughter of Rev. Richard Austin (q.v.) and one of the beneficiaries of claims against several slave-owners in Surinam by the Austin family as creditors. Charles Adye Austin, M.J. Tuckniss [given as Tuckness] and W.P. Austin also claimed as owners of one-third each of the 106 enslaved people on Plantage Kleinhoop, for which the compensation was paid to creditors.


Sources

In 1863, claims were made on behalf of William Paul Austin as creditor for the enslaved people on several estates in Surinam. In turn William Paul Austin was shown as having some form of power of attorney dated 1859 from C.A. Austin of Pernambuco and Mary Jane Austin and her [deceased] husband Benjamin Fuller Tuckniss (q.v.)
