Samuel Foster

???? - 1770

Biography

Son of Col. John Foster, brother of Thomas Foster MP and William Foster of Bedford, and father of Samuel Warren Foster (each of whom q.v.).

  1. Samuel Foster was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 500 acres of land in Westmoreland and 1495 acres of land in St Elizabeth, total 1995 acres.

  2. Will of Samuel Foster [late of the parish of St Elizabeth in Jamaica but now of the town] of Somerton Somerset proved 03/02/1770. In the will made in 1766 he gave a confused account of a dispute with an attorney in Jamaica named Martin Young Mathias, for a short time attorney to Samuel Foster's brother Thomas Foster deceased and who had allegedly fraudulently obtained land in Jamaica from Samuel Foster left by Thomas to Samuel, by selling it to himself for £200 when it was worth £1000. Samuel Foster left everything to his wife Elizabeth, the sole executrix. Administration was granted to Joseph Forster Barham in June 1770 after Elizabeth's death, for the benefit of Thomas Foster, Florence Foster and Gardiner Foster, the children of Elizabeth.
