Bridget Maria Robertson (née Purcell)

Biography

Daughter and co-heir of Joseph Purcell (q.v.). Her son James Robertson Burton is in the ODNB as 'historian.' The entry give his mother as Maria, and describes his father Thomas Robertson as 'a landed proprietor' in Grenada. Bridget Maria Robertson brought her family to England c.1809.

  1. Will of Bridget Maria Robertson [late of the island of Grenada] but now of Crawford Street Portman Square widow proved 08/07/1816. In the will she instructed her executors to convey her faithful and deserving servant Jean ('a negro') 'free of all expenses to her' to her daughter Celia in Grenada: 'it is my wish that she should be free of all slavery and servitude but continue in our family as servant to my daughter.'
