Merchant of Bristol and slave-owner in Jamaica, 'left Bristol to deal with his Jamaican estates [sic] in 1779, and died at sea returning from Jamaica to Bristol in 1783.' Father of Samuel Delpratt II and Edward Delpratt, and uncle of Joseph Delpratt (all of whom q.v.). Major moneylender and mortgagee in Jamaica in partnership with Edward Foord of Jamaica (q.v.)
Kenneth Morgan, 'Bristol West India Merchants of the 18th Century', Transactions of the Royal Historical Society Vol. 3 6th series pp. 185-208; Burnard shows Delpratt leaving an estate of £141,930, and provided an analysis by size of Delpratt's loan portfolio totalling £373,025.62, labelled as sterling but apparently in fact Jamaica currency, Trevor Burnard Planters, Merchants and Slaves pp. 200-201.
