Near this Place [in Bath Abbey] lie the Remains of JAMES PEDDER, of the Island of Jamaica, Esqr who departed this Life, Novr: 21st 1775, Aged 64 Years.
Will of James Pedder of St David Jamaica [made in 1774] proved 18/07/1776. In the will he left an annuity of £50 p.a. to his reputed natural daughter Frances Pedder 'begotten on the body of Jane Harris a free mulatto', and two annuities of £20 p.a. in trust to Edward Foord of Kingston to support James Ellis and Richard Ellis the sons of the said Frances Pedder and place them in a trade. He left his wife Elizabeth an annuity of £200 p.a., earnestly advising and recommmending her to live in England, and the rest of his estate in trust for his daughter Elizabeth Vallette Pedder. In a codicil of 15/07/1775, when he was shown as of Clifton, he added Samuel Delpratt as a trustee.
Elizabeth Vallette Pedder married Nathaniel Moorsom 07/11/1780 at Wraxall near Bristol.
James Pedder was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 170 acres of land in St David.
