James Fairlie of Bellfield

???? - 1820

Biography

James Fairlie was partner of John Tailyour (later Taylor) of Kirtonhill (q.v.): Taylor, Ballantine and Fairlie were active as slave-factors at Kingston Jamaica in the 1790s.

  1. Will of James Fairlie of Riccarton Ayrshire proved 28/04/1820. The will is identifiable as the former merchant in Jamaica through the legacy to John Robert Mitchell of Trelawny, son of Sarah Fairlie, through the presence of William Paterson formerly of Kingston as an executor and through the request that his negro servant William be taken care of. He left the Bellfield estate in Ayrshire 'with the mansion house and offices lately built by me' to his son James Fairlie; he left his only daughter Agnes £7000.
