John Hudson Guy II

Son of John Hudson Guy I (1678-1702) and Hannah nee Tamlinson.

1. Will of John Hudson Guy [of Iver Bucks. but now] of St Catherine Jamaica proved 27/05/1752. His will dealt solely with household goods and personalty and in a codicil with seven 'negroes' whom he had recently bought), which (and whom) he left to his wife Elizabeth and daughter Elizabeth Hannah Guy. His will was silent on his son John Hudson Guy III and on estates and the enslaved people in Jamaica, implying that the family property was entailed. The estate of Hudson Guy Esq, account of sugar and rum sold and delivered by John Patten and filed by Robert Dellap, was entered into the Accounts Produce for 1740-1741.

2. Memorial inscription in the Cathedral at Spanish Town: "In this Church lyes interred the body of the Honble. John Hudson Guy, Esqr who departed this life the 7th of Febry. 1749 in the 52nd year of his age, his merit promoted him to several public offices in this Island which he executed with honour and integrity and supported them with dignity; he served his country as a Member of the Assembly, was made an Assistant Judge of the Courts of Law and acted in that station for nine years with so strict an adherence to the rules of justice that he was raised to the Chief Judge's seat as a reward for his uniform and steady regard to the laws of his country." His daughter Elizabeth Hannah (d. 1771) married Sir Charles Price, 2nd Bart.
