James Lewis of Powis Place

Brother and heir of Charles Edward Lewis (q.v.), who had invested in enslaved people in Jamaica in the mid-1790s with John Deffell and Thomas Nevill (both of whom q.v.). In his will, James Lewis of Powis Place left a portfolio of London property to his son John Henry Lewis, and all his 'parts, share and interests of and in certain plantations' and people in Jamaica 'being the adventure of my brother Charles Edward Lewis with John Deffell and Thomas Nevill' to his children John Henry Lewis, Edmund Burke Lewis, Susanna Maria Lewis and Mary Caroline Lewis. He has an entry in the ODNB as 'architect': he designed the Bethlem Hospital 1812-1815 and a series of country houses.
