Sir John Jackson

30th Dec 1763 - 1820

Biography

MP for Dover 1806-1820, brother of Joseph Jackson (q.v.) and partner of John Petty Muspratt (q.v.) as East India merchants. Born in Jamaica, but part of the 'swing east' away from the Caribbean in the later years of slavery. His will, proved 30/08/1820, is silent on slave-property, but John Petty Muspratt had mortgages over two estates in St Ann belonging to Joseph Jackson, mortgages that might have originated in the partnership of Muspratt with Sir John Jackson.

  1. Born at Kingston, 30/12/1763. An East India Director, private secretary to Lord Keith. Created a baronet 22/05/1815. Married Charlotte nee Goreham.
