Son of James Browne of Acton and Anne Browne formerly Nisbet, later Hutton. A younger son, his will indicates that he came to slave-ownership after the death of a brother, probably Jeremiah Nisbett Browne whose will was proved 14/11/1798. No will has yet been found for their older brother, another James Browne, given as 'James Browne of Weymouth' in the will of their father.
