Robert Pearne

Slave-owner on Antigua, of Isleworth by the time he made his will in 1757, but also land-owner at Evenly in Northamptonshire, which had come to him through his mother's family the Lisles. Vere Langford Oliver shows him as the owner of Blubber Valley and Rose Valley in St Mary's with 1200 acres in 1743 and of Musqueto Cove with 600 acres. Both estates had been owned by Robert Pearne's father, also Robert (d. c. 1717).

1. Will of Robert Pearne of Isleworth proved 04/04/1757. He left one moiety (half) of his estates [and enslaved people] in Antigua in trust to Sir John Willes for life and then to Sir John's son John Willes for life, then to the latter's second son, subject to an annuity of £300 p.a. to his [Pearne's] sister Mary Pateshall; he entailed the other half to John Spooner of Bloomsbury Square and then to the latter's son Charles Spooner subject to a monetary legacy of £1000 to his niece, also named Mary Pateshall. Unusually, he left an estate in Northamptonshire to a servant, James Gulliver for life (and then to John Willes).
