Barbara Innes

???? - 1831

Biography

Heir of her brother Hugh Innes (q.v.), apparently including property in people in Jamaica, which had been sold by the time of her death c. 1831. The two siblings were children of Alexander Innes of Clerkseat, Aberdeen.

  1. Barbara Innes' will [made in 1822 with a codicil of 1827 and a second undated codicil] 'spinster of Aberdeen', was proved 04/06/1831. It made no reference to 'slave-property' but left monetary legacies totalling £3000 to her sisters, including Jessy, widow of James Beattie [Professor of Philosophy at Marischal College]. Her assets included London Dock Company stock, and some part of a legacy from her brother Peter Innes [Peter Innes had died in Kingston Jamaica in 1801].
