Baptised 12 December 1720. 4th son of the Rev. Michael Stanhope, canon of St. Paul’s and later of Windsor, (and a distant cousin of Philip, 4th Earl of Chesterfield) and Penelope, daughter of Sir Salathiel Lovell. He never married.
Held various relatively minor government posts; but was also agent for Jamaica 1757-1763.
Judd identified him as a 'West Indian' MP.
