???? - 1805
Husband of Catherine Byndloss (q.v. under Catherine Lambert nee Byndloss) and through her part owner of the Winchester estate in St Thomas-in-the-East. Father of Admiral Robert Stuart Lambert (q.v.) among others.
The children of Catherine Byndloss and Robert Alexander Lambert constituted a military and naval dynasty. Their sons included Rear Admiral Robert Stuart Lambert, General Sir John Lambert, Captain Henry Lambert RN, Major-General Samuel Lambert and Admiral Sir George Lambert RN. Robert Stuart Lambert was the commander of the British garrison on St Helena at the time of Napoleon's death there, and wrote to John Wilson Cro[c]ker 02/05/1821 to alert him to Bonaparte's impending death, subsequently enclosing an autopsy report from 06/05/1821. General Sir John Lambert and Capt. Henry Lambert have entries in the ODNB as 'army officer' and 'naval officer' respectively.
Will of Robert Lambert of [Hinde Street] St Marylebone [made in 1805] proved 03/01/1806. The will is silent on property in Jamaica, and left his houses in Hinde Street and Brighton to his wife Catherine. Although many genealogical sites online give 1801 as the death-date of Robert Alexander Lambert, this 1805 will is certainly the will of the husband of Catherine nee Byndloss: it gives their sons as Robert, John, Harry, Samuel and George and daughters as Lady Baynes, Maria and Lydia, all details consistent with what is known of Catherine Lambert nee Byndloss, and the Hinde Street address recurs in Catherine Lambert nee Byndloss' will.
