Vice Admiral Robert Stuart Lambert

Son of Captain Robert Lambert RN, and devisee of his mother Catherine Byndloss, who was in turn the devisee of Thomas Cussans on the Winchester Estate in Jamaica.

1. Married Charlotte Pigou, daughter of Frederick Pigou, at St Marylebone 11/12/1799. Burial of Robert Stuart Lambert of Weston Green born 02/04/1771 died 16/09/1836 aged 65 years at St Mary Thames Ditton 23/09/1836. Will of Rear Admiral Robert Lambert otherwise Robert Stuart Lambert Vice Admiral of the Royal Navy of Hinde St., Manchester Square, Middlesex proved 03/10/1836.

2. Robert Lambert, Admiral signed amongst others to call a meeting of Planters, Merchants, Ship-Owners, Manufacturers, Tradesmen and all others interested in the preservation of the British West India colonies in 1833.

3. Rear Admiral Robert Stuart Lambert was part of a military and naval dynasty: his brothers included General John Lambert, Captain Henry Lambert RN, Major-General Samuel Lambert and Admiral Sir George Lambert RN. Robert Stuart Lambert was the commander of the British garrison on St Helena at the time of Napoleon's death there, and wrote to John Wilson Cro[c]ker 02/05/1821 to alert him to Bonaparte's impending death, subsequently enclosing an autopsy report from 06/05/1821.

4. The Byndloss family of Jamaica had intermarried with the Cussans in the mid-18th century: Henry Morgan Byndloss (1703-1755) married Jane, daughter of Thomas Cussans of Amity Hall  in 1751; Thomas Byndloss married Elizabeth Cussans 1745. The Thomas Cussans from whom Lambert's claim derives was very probably the Thomas Cussans son of Thomas Cussans of Jamaica (d. 1745) who matriculated Trinity Oxford in 1755 aged 16 and died 'of Mayfair' Middlesex in 1796, whose will was proved 05/08/1796.  

5. Robert Stuart Lambert's brother General Sir John Lambert married Jane Morant, daughter of John Morant of Brockenhurst and sister of John Morant (q.v.) and almost certainly of George Morant (q.v.).
