Dame Mary Kent (née Wordsworth)

Biography

Co-heiress with her sister Ann Verelst of her father Josias Wordsworth, through whom she inherited mortgagees over enslaved people on estates in Grenada that had belonged to Michael Scott (q.v.), who mortgaged them to Dame Mary Kent's uncle Samuel Wordsworth (q.v.), a London merchant. Her husband, Sir Charles Kent, 1st Bt. (?1743-1811), was MP for Thetford 1784-1790.
