The ODNB for Edward Strathearn Gordon Baron Gordon of Drumearn [in Perthshire, Scotland], shows on 07/08/1845 the marriage of Edward Strathearn Gordon to Agnes Joanna [1826-1895] only child of John McInnes of Auchenreoch Stirlingshire, and Auchnenfroe Dumbartonshire, 'a wealthy Grenada sugar planter.' 'Gordon's absences from his Edinburgh home in order to pursue his political career, and latterly his failing health, brought a measure of estrangement from his wife.'
"Agnes Johanna, the daughter of John McInnes Esquire and Isabella his wife, of the Island of Grenada, born on the 29th January in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twenty six at the dwelling house in Carriere estate, in the parish of St Andrew, in the said Island of Grenada, was baptised according to the rites and ceremonies of the United Church of England and Ireland, at the said dwelling house on Carriere estate on the twenty ninth day of April in the said year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twenty six by the Revd. Benjamin Webster Record of [crossed out]." Record in the Cardross Parish Register made 19/03/1831.
Will of John McInnes of Saint Patrick Island of Grenada proved 04/07/1835. Under the will he left an annuity of £20 p.a. to his mother-in-law Mrs Joanna Urquhart...'now residing at Cromarty', and other legacies to his wife's family, but the main heiress was his daughter Agnes Joanna.
Living at 2 Randolph Crescent, Edinburgh, in the censuses 1851-1891. Agnes Joanna Gordon nee McInnes, born 29/01/1826 in Grenada, died October 1893[sic] aged 67[sic], buried in Dean Cemetery, Edinburgh. Agnes Joanna Gordon died 11/10/1895 aged 69 years, according to her death certificate, and her parents were John McInnes, landed proprietor, and Isabella McInnes nee Urquhart.
