Oliver Nugent was the original purchaser of two Lots, Nos. 69 and 70 totalling 277 acres in St John Dominica and further two Lots Nos. 70 and 75 in totalling 580 acres in St Joseph Dominica. This was almost certainly the same man as the Oliver Nugent shown by Vere Langford Oliver as Oliver Nugent of Nugents (d. c. 1802 in North America), 1st son and heir of Walter Nugent (d. 1758), 'built "Clare Hall'; Member of Council, sold his estate 1765 to Robert Skerrett; resident at Dominica 1773; bankrupt Nov. 1777.'
